well hello you little sustainable superstar you.
We are 42 day into the year and I’ve already had multiple conversation about news consumption.
Most understand the privilege in being able to do so, but unplugged from everything last year. Because this shit is hard.
Every day brings a new breaking alert — usually that the current administration has made some horrible, racist/sexist/elitist uneducated decision that harms people and planet.
- if every day of 2025 has felt like a year — you’re not alone.
- if you’re living on edge waiting for ‘the other shoe to drop’ on a global scale — you’re not alone.
- if you’re worried for the planet your kids or grandkids will inherit or you’re unsure if you even should have kids — you’re not alone.
The Trump Administration will fuck shit up. That’s the campaign they ran on and why we wrote TWO blogs about Project 2025.
- you know it’s wrong
- we know it’s wrong
- most other countries know it’s wrong
So do what you can when you can. It’s not on you to save everyone and everything.
- if the most you can manage is shopping small instead of on Amazon — amazing.
- making a few sustainable swaps to your lifestyle — amazing.
- teaching your kids climate change is not a hoax — amazing.
- continuing to talk about how abortion is healthcare & DEI is not privilege — amazing.
We are not meant to live like this. With this much information pushed on us constantly.
So if you do still care about sustainability, about people, about the planet, and have the anxiety to prove it - you ARE a sustainable superstar.

february's blog: climate denial won't slow down wildfires
Have you heard the conspiracy theories that the LA wildfires were caused on purpose? Among the reasons given is because insurance companies pulled wildfire coverage just 6 months before January's fire… isn’t that suspicious?!
Well, no. In the decade+ I’ve lived in LA I’ve never had private wildfire insurance — it comes from the state. As for insurance companies, they're pulling back coverage from all forms of climate disasters leaving people vulnerable.
People can say climate change isn’t real as much as they want… but the proof is in financial losses.
Anyway, read the latest blog explaining how climate change fueled the flames or read the one from last month: sustainable gifts for new parents.

LA is in recovery mode + EPA
The flames are gone but our air quality is horrific.
Can you imagine how much plastic has burned and how much asbestos has been released into the air?
The next step in moving forward is to get shit cleaned up.
THE EPA is working through Phase 1 getting hazardous household materials cleaned up at no cost to residents. Wow, what a great service - for now.
february's earthly eco matters
🍾 from wine cork to plastic alternative: engineers in Portugal - where 50% of the world’s cork grows - are working on cork thermoplastic composites. While not a complete substitute for plastic (yet) this new version could create a gradual path in weaning off fossil-fuel based plastics!
🥹 looking on the bright side: in a 2023 TED talk, data scientist Hannah Ritchie presents her argument that we are doing good things!! We could become the first generation to achieve true sustainability. I LOVE this. So many people are doing so much work and this is finally calling out all the good. I’m not crying, you are!
🐞 not up for another structured, rule-filled hobby? try chaos gardening! Start with literally throwing some seeds around and see what happens. It started as a TikTok trend but is actually really beneficial for soil, pollinators, and the ecosystem.
🐯 more kitty cats for everyone: thanks to conservation efforts, India’s tiger population doubled from 2010 to 2022. They even found that communities near tiger habitats have also benefited from an increase in tigers.
stay sustainable folks 💚
